TPS®/3270 BSC HOST is an API which supplies a set of
C functions allowing an application to control a 3270 Binary
Synchronous Communications line terminal or printer session on
an IBM® AIX® system. The BSC protocol may be either
ASCII or EBCDIC. The API contains the basic open, close, read,
and write facilities for control of a real or emulated 3270 BSC
device. The product also has the ability to communicate with
multiple controllers on a multipoint BSC line.
Designed to be used multiple times on a single machine, TPS®/ 3270
BSC HOST uses a shared library that can be accessed by multiple
programs on a single machine. It can be used to handle multiple
BSC ports on the same synchronous adapter or on multiple adapters.
There is no logical limit placed on the number of ports accessed
by the TPS®/ 3270 BSC HOST product. Also, TPS®/ 3270
BSC HOST does not take control of the entire adapter if it
has more than one port. The other ports may be used for other
types of communications such as SDLC or ASYNC lines.

PRODUCT POSITIONING
TPS®/ 3270 BSC HOST is an ideal solution for either:
- Creating applications to communicate with legacy 3270 BSC controllers
along with their attached terminals and printers.
- Porting legacy host applications to an IBM® AIX® system.
FEATURES
Protocol Support
TPS®/ 3270 BSC HOST currently supports both EBCDIC and ASCII
protocol support. Those subsystems can provide:
- EBCDIC
- 8-bit data/no parity
- Transparent 8-bit data
- ASCII
- 7-bit data/odd parity
- Transparent 7-bit data
The TPS®/ 3270 BSC HOST line driver, along with TPS®/ BSC
SUPPORT, the device driver and synchronous adapter, can handle
inserting and removing BSC control information allowing the
application to just handle the 3270 data. Also, the support
will handle all necessary standard protocol handshaking.
The application only has the responsibility to format its
own outgoing 3270 messages and handle the incoming 3270 messages.
Adapter Support
- ARTIC960Hx
- Multiple ports per card supported
- Multiple cards per system
supported
- Allows other protocols (i.e., SDLC, ASYNC) to
be used on other ports of the same adapter
- Maximums: -
Line Speed: 56 Kb
- Frame Size: 4090 bytes
